Summary:
- Octopus Energy and Lunar Energy are introducing a new electricity plan in Texas, which combines a high-capacity home battery with stable energy prices for three years.
- Customers can receive a Lunar Energy battery at no initial cost, paying a subscription of $45 per month along with a fixed rate of 8 cents per kWh for electricity. The battery also serves as backup power during outages.
- This initiative aligns with other battery-enabled electric plans in Texas, which provide low-cost energy storage and home backup in exchange for supporting the power grid.

Octopus Energy and Lunar Energy aim to make energy solutions easier for consumers with their new PowerStore partnership. This partnership will start with a limited number of households in Texas but could expand in the future.
“Home batteries are becoming vital for grid function. What sets this plan apart is its affordability and simplicity,” said Kunal Girotra, founder of Lunar Energy.
The PowerStore can connect with solar inverters from six manufacturers, including Tesla and SolarEdge. During usual demand peaks, Octopus Energy will use the battery to supply power to homes or back to the grid, while ensuring battery levels are maintained during storm forecasts.
Texas has become a testing ground for residential energy solutions, especially with its ongoing pilot programs for virtual power plants. The partnership between Base Power and Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative is expected to grow significantly, promising reduced costs and efficient energy usage for consumers.
As these battery programs develop, both companies stress that they will not only benefit customers with reliable power but also help reduce overall energy costs in the future.
Octopus Energy is also exploring other energy management solutions, including optimizing customer thermostats and electric vehicles, alongside their conventional power plans.
