Energy Vault Collaborates with RackScale to Enhance Data Center Power Supply
Energy Vault is teaming up with RackScale to provide up to 2 GW/20 GWh of reliable power to data centers starting in 2026. This partnership aims to improve the efficiency of data center operations amidst the growing demand for consistent electricity sources.
As part of this collaboration, Energy Vault will utilize its innovative B-Nest battery enclosures. These systems reportedly offer energy density that is over eight times greater than conventional ground-mounted battery storage. Each data center equipped with this technology can expect to receive primary power for over 10 hours, a significant benefit for operations requiring uninterrupted electricity.
This announcement is part of a larger trend where tech firms and data center operators are seeking dependable electricity solutions. The increasing interconnection wait times for grid connections, which can exceed three years in many areas, have prompted companies like RackScale to explore alternatives that can expedite their project timelines.
Energy Vault’s Chief Commercial and Product Officer, Marco Terruzzin, emphasized the B-Nest system’s safety, efficiency, and space-saving qualities, making it an ideal fit for urban data center environments where grid congestion is prevalent. The B-Nest technology is described as modular and adaptable, benefiting from Energy Vault’s extensive engineering expertise in energy storage.
Additionally, the installations of B-Nest systems at data centers may allow these facilities to earn extra revenue by participating in utility demand response programs, especially when combined with flexible utility power contracts.
As energy demands for data centers rise, companies like Entergy are also expanding their operations to support this growth by planning new gas-fired plants. Meanwhile, leading oil and gas companies are considering entering the power sector to satisfy energy needs for data centers, signaling a significant evolution in the energy landscape.
Overall, the strategic partnership between Energy Vault and RackScale highlights the ongoing efforts to provide robust energy solutions for the rapidly expanding data center industry.
